What is Islam?

Islam إسلام is the monotheistic ( Only One ) religion articulated by the Quran. Islam is a religion simply means “Submission to God” and derives from a word meaning “Peace”. As a whole, Islam is both a religion and complete way of life.

“Decidedly, the true religion acceptable in Allah is Islam” (Quran, Al-I-Imran 3:19)

Allah said “The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him by his Lord. Everyone who believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. “We make no distinction (in believing) between Allah's Messengers”. They say, Lord We have heard Your commandments and we are obedient. Grant us Your Protection, Our Lord. For to You is the returning” (Quran Al Baqara, 2:285)

6 articles of Islam Faith (Iman). Belief in:
·        Allah (Only One True God)
·        Angels, there are 10 Angels must remember
     -        Angel Jibrail
     -        Angel Mikail
     -        Angel Al Maut (known as Izrail)
     -        Angel Israfil
     -        Angel Raqib & Atid
     -        Angel Malik
     -        Angel Ridwan
     -        Angel Munkar & Nakir
·        Revelations such as Islamic Holy Book Quran
·        Prophets
·        Resurrection & Judgement (Qiyamah)
·        Predestination (Free Will)

Five Pillars in Islam
·       Testimony (Shahadah)
   Muslims must repeat the shahadah in prayer, and non-Muslims
   wishing to convert to Islam are required to recite “Ashadu Al-la
   Ilaha Illa-llahu Wa Ashadu Anna Muhammadur Rasulu-lah”, or “I
   testify there are no gods except Allah and Prophet Muhammad is
   the last messenger of Allah”.
·        Fasting (Puasa)
   Fasting from food and drink including sexual intercourse from
   dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadhan. Muslims are
   encouraged to be close to Allah (Only One True God) and
   repented of their past sins and think of the needy and poor.        
·        Prayer, there are 5 obligatory prayer to be performed daily.
·        Pilgrimage (Hajj)
          Every Muslim who can afford it must take the pilgrimage to
        Mecca at least once in his or her lifetime.
·        Alms-giving (Zakat)
        Is giving a fixed portion of accumulated wealth by those who can
        afford it to help the poor or needy.
