Quran & Science

In Islam, there is no conflict between faith in Allah and modern scientific knowledge. The Quran is filled with scientific facts and imagery that are supported by modern findings.

In many centuries, mankind was unable to study certain data contained the verses in the Quran because they did not possess sufficient scientific means. However, today the numerous verses in the Quran dealing with Science have become clear and logical.

The Quran directed Muslims to “contemplate the wonders of creation” (Quran Al I Imran, 3:191).  The entire universe was created by Allah.  Muslims are encouraged to seek knowledge, explore the universe and find the “Signs of Allah” in His Creation.

Allah said:
Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth,
in the alternation of the night and the day,
in the sailing of ships through the ocean, for the profit of mankind,
in the rain which Allah sends down from the skies,
and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead,
in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth;
in the change of the winds,
and the clouds which they trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth,
here indeed are Signs for a people that are wise

(Quran Al Baqara, 2:164)

Prophet Muhammad said about Islam & Science as follows:
“Seeking knowledge is compulsory on every Muslim”
“Wisdom is the lost property of the believer”
“Whoever follows a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make his path to paradise easy”

The brief survey of Quran references to creation clearly shows us how modern scientific data and statements in the Quran consistently agree on a large number of points. The Quran contained many scientifically accurate statements as follows:
CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE
“Your Lord is God who created the heavens and the earth in six days” (Quran Al Araf, 7:54)

“(God) who created the earth and heavens above” (Quran Taha, 20:4)

ASTRONOMY
The Sun and Moon
The moon is an inert body which reflects light, whereas the sun is a celestial body in a state of permanent combustion producing both light and heat.

“Did you see how Allah created seven heavens, one above the other, and made in them the moon a light and the sun a lamp?” (Quran Al Naba, 78:12-13)

The Solar Apex
“The sun runs is moving on its ordained course towards the goal determined for it. That is the determining of All Mighty, the Processor of perfect knowledge” (Quran Yasin, 36:38)

Expansion of the Universe
“I built the heaven with power and it is I, who am expanding it.” (Quran Al Dhariat, 51:47)

Conquest of Space
“O assembly of Jinns and men, if you can penetrate the regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate them! You will not penetrate them except with authority” (Quran Al Rahman, 55:33)

GEOLOGY
Water Cycle
“Have you not seen that Allah sent rain down from the sky and caused it to penetrate the ground and come forth as springs, then He caused crops of different colors to grow...” (Quran Al Zumur, 39:21)

Mountains
“Have We not made the earth an expanse and the mountains stakes?” (Quran Al Naba, 78:6-7)

BIOLOGY
“Do the unbelievers not realize that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then I clove them asunder and I made every living thing out of water. Will they still not believe?” (Quran Al Anbiya, 21:30)

Botany
“(God is the One who) sent down rain from the sky and with it brought forth a variety of plants in pairs” (Quran Taha, 20:53)

“And it is He Who drew forth the earth from another heavenly body and made it productive and fertile by means of particles of other planets and made firm mountains and rivers on it. He has grown therein fruit of every kind in a pair comprising both sexes the male stamens and the female pistils. He causes the night to cover the day. Behold! In all this there are signs of people who reflect” (Quran Al Rad, 13:3)

Physiology
“Verily, in cattle there is a lesson for you. I give you drink from their insides, coming from a conjunction between the digested contents (of the intestines) and the blood, milk pure and pleasant for those who drink it” (Quran Al Nahl, 16:66)

EMBRYOLOGY
Fertilization
“Verily, I created a human being from a sperm drop uniting it with an ovum” (Quran Al Insan, 76:2)

“Then He created his seed from an extract of an insignificant fluid derived by his consuming food produced from clay or soil” (Quran Al Sajdah, 32:8)

Implantation
“Who also created human being from a clog (germinating cell)” (Quran Al Alaq, 96:2)

Embryo
“Then We form the sperm into a clot, then We develop the clot into a lump of flesh then We fashion bones out of this lump of flesh, We clothe the bones with flesh, thereafter We evolve him into another being. Therefore blessed be Allah the Best of Creators” (Quran Al Muminun, 23:14)

“We have indeed created you from dust then from a sperm drop then from a blood clot and then from a lump flesh in proportion and out of proportion” (Quran Al Hajj, 22:5)

“Then He endowed him with perfect faculties of head and heart in accordance with what he is meant to be and breathed into him of His spirit thus made him the recipient of the Divine word. And He has given you hearing, eyes and hearts. Yet little are the thanks you give” (Quran Al Sahdah, 32:9)

Scientists Confirm The Signs of Allah. The Universe is discovered by Science which are confirmed to the existence of Allah. Science leads us to the conclusion that the Universe has a Creator and this Creator is Allah who is perfect in Power, Wisdom and Knowledge. It is religion that shows us the way in knowing Allah. Thus it is possible that science is a method we use to better see and investigate the realities addressed by religion which is Islam.

Today, the scientists confirm Allah's existence and science is a way of knowing Him. Scientific evidence has proved that all living things were created by Allah.

Moreover, Islam advocates Science that the universe is a process to explore the creation of Allah. The Quran said the following verse:
“Do they not look at the sky above them? How We have built it and adorned it, and there are no rifts therein? And the earth - We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and caused it to bring forth plants of beauteous kinds (in pairs). And We send down from the sky blessed water whereby We give growth unto gardens and the grain of crops. And tall palm-trees, with shoots of fruit-stalks, piled one over another”. (Surah Qaf, 50:6-7, 50:9-10)

The Quran urges mankind to think and to explore everything in the world in which they live. This is because science supports religion which is Islam, saves the individual from ignorance, and causes mankind to think more consciously, it opens wide one's world of thought and helps understanding and knowledge the Signs of Allah self-evident in the universe.
